Too close

Yesterday, the proposed amendment to the Constitution to outlaw flag burning as a form of protest failed. Amending the Constitution requires 67 votes in the Senate to be passed to the states for ratification, and then three fourths of the states must approve it. The amendment got 66 votes.

I read this morning that there were 15 American “servicemembers” (what does that mean? soldiers? medical crew? contractors?) killed this week, bringing the total to 2,516 (okay, it’s not a neutral source, but I’m pretty sure I read about us hitting 2,500 recently. There are also apparently about 40,000 Iraqi civilian deaths.
