Internal debates

Real life amusements have prevented me from paying my usual attention to all of the Internets, so blogging has been and will continue to be light from me. For anyone who doesn’t know yet, I have switched offices (again) in favo(u)r of something more appropriate to my station. (Grad students really don’t deserve private offices, and I was lucky to have one at all. This also solves the screaming child problem.) Visitors are still welcome, but I will probably grab my coffee mug and escort you to Broad rather than chat in my new office that also houses my eight new best friends.

This is so we all stay friendly, of course.

Recent accomplishments involve a delightful night at Bar Sinister and finally memorizing my Rubik’s Cube solution. (In an effort to break my FreeCell habit, I’ve started “cubing” instead of playing solitaire while waiting for jobs or processes that take less than five minutes but more than a few seconds. I’ve been FreeCell-free for three weeks, but the game is still in my Windows “frequently used” list. Dang it.) Future challenges include a wedding this weekend in Tampa and a group meeting presentation looming on the 4th of July. (My boss doesn’t believe in holidays.)

Many decisions must be made. Do I bring the laptop and work? What will I talk about in the group meeting? Will I go for the safe but deathly dull option of presenting my receptors (all of which look identical to the material presented by my colleagues to the non-biogroup folks) or do I try to be interesting but risk irrelevance? (Ha ha. A grad student worrying about relevance.)

So if you don’t hear much from me for the next couple weeks, one of those events is probably the reason.
