Festive socks
by dixie
I finished this pair of socks on Christmas day, desperately hoping I could get them off the needles so I could use the needles for a mindless pair of plain socks to entertain me during Christmas evening with The Family. I started them because I really wanted to make a pretty three-colo(u)r Christmas stocking and failed to find an inoffensive shade of green at my Friendly Local Yarn Shop. I found red, so I bought it. A few hours later I remembered I had the Eleanora pattern (given by the endlessly wonderful Tevana) I’d been holding off on until I could find some agreeable red yarn for it.
The embarrassing thing is that it took me that many hours to actually put those two thoughts together and cast on.
Here they are, in all their Christmasy glory:

(There are indeed two of them, you just can’t tell in that picture.)
Although the toes are rather elegant, my favo(u)rite part about these socks is the cuff:

Not only is the patterning pretty, but this was my first go at a knitted hem. I love the results, both the way they fit and the way they look. Vital statistics (ignore if you’re not a knitter):
Pattern: Eleanora Socks, linked above
Yarn: Gems Pearl from Louet, in Cherry Red
Knitted on US 1 needles (hems on 0)
Modifications: None

Those are amazing! I don’t know that I’ll ever make them, but you’ve done a beautiful job on them!
Is there such a thing as Sock Porn? If there is… those are it. Delish.
Very nice!
I just learned how to do socks – and that was on size 5 needles … I couldn’t imagine doing it on 1s!
My first pair of socks was on US 4 needles with worsted weight yarn, and I spent a good amount of time in the “DK” weight with US 3s. I really didn’t start in with the hardcore US 1 action (which I stick to because I knit tight and when I use 0s the fabric is inflexible) until I realised I didn’t want to be finishing a pair of socks every week.
