Dublin City Council are looking to reduce the inner city to30 Kilometers an Hour (that’s 5 965.16345 rods per hour for you Americans). For the most part, my experience of driving in Dublin has been that they could make the speed limit Mach 5 for all the difference it would make to the static traffic.
Honestly, I think this is a meaningless measure. For the most part, the unfortunates who have recently been killed in the City were crushed by slow-moving traffic such as buses and trucks. Large trucks are now banned in the city center, and I hope that will relieve some of the carnage. The real criminals in this scenario is the responsibility of the four different bodies associated with traffic management. The series of confusing layout areas at the bottom of Amiens Street and Butt Bridge are good examples of the way you need to make sudden changes of lanes with no way to make a clear route across.
